Join us for an exciting weekend of positive training for your sporting dog. R. I. Dog Guy offers three levels of training in special weekend seminars for you and your pup. All training uses the positive reinforcement methods explained in our book, Positive Gun Dogs: Clicker Training for Sporting Breeds (no shock, pinch or choke collars). And all participants receive a free copy of the book!
At our training weekends, you and your dog will sharpen your basic skills, including walking at heel, steadiness and reliable recalls. You will also focus on gundog tasks including scent work, systematic hunting and retrieving, with each program tailored to your dog's level of training and breed characteristics. And it's not just for sporting breeds; any dog that loves to hunt and fetch is welcome!
One Step at a Time!
Our training programs use a systematic approach so that each new skill is built on a solid foundation. You'll learn how to shape your dog's behavior to meet your training goals, how to move ahead in increments that are easy for your dog to master, and how to keep records to evaluate the progress that you and your dog have made.
Earn a Gun Dog Training Award
By a special arrangement with the Gundog Club of the United Kingdom, we are authorized to certify your dog for an award for its accomplishments. The awards are based on a series of tests, ranging from Beginner to Senior level. The tests are conducted at the end of each weekend program. All of the tasks required for the tests are covered in our curriculum and you and your dog can display your ribbon and certificate with great pride!
To see more about the award levels, visit the Gundog Club here:
Unlike award programs sponsored by other organizations, ours do not require your dog to hunt or retrieve birds. All awards can be earned by finding and retrieving canvas training dummies. So if you are interested in training your dog to do the tasks that it was bred to do, but do not hunt or do not wish to train with birds, this is the program for you.
(We also offer private and semi-private coaching, as well as group classes, for those who wish to train their dogs with birds. Contact us for details.)
